The problem

The existing web-based game lacked an optimized mobile experience, leading to usability challenges and limited engagement on mobile devices.

The goal

Redesign and adapt the game's UX and UI for mobile platforms, ensuring seamless gameplay, enhanced usability, and an engaging user experience.

Responsibilities

Responsible for UX/UI design and implementation, ensuring an optimal user experience across all platforms. Define and document designs, create UI assets, maintain design documentation, and contribute to bug fixes and system optimizations.

I analyzed and tested the web version, including a detailed review of existing documentation. Created a game map, that helped to pre-estimate work tasks for design and development.

Gods Unchained

Worked with testers to identify usability issues and areas for improvement through systematic usability tests. Performed a comprehensive study of competitors and market leaders to find UX patterns and best practices for similar games on mobile platforms.

Leveraged the existing visual style of the game to design interfaces that maintained brand identity while optimizing for mobile usability.

Collaborated closely with developers to clarify features, ensure accurate implementation, and prepare all necessary design assets. Created detailed documentation for the functionality of each screen.

I successfully ported the game’s core functionalities to mobile, ensuring a smooth transition from web while preserving its strategic elements. I reworked the UI and interactions to make complex game mechanics easier to understand and more intuitive for touch controls. By refining layouts, simplifying navigation, and improving visual clarity, I made the game more accessible without compromising its competitive nature.

What I learned

I gained experience in adapting a complex game for mobile, balancing usability with the core mechanics. Worked with new genre - TCG. I learned how to optimize UI for touch interactions, streamline navigation for smaller screens, and ensure accessibility without compromising gameplay depth. Also, I gained experience with paralel development and learned how to be flexible and fast in decision making.
